Once we reached the end of our lease, I was left scrambling in search of housing. I had already lost so much to my past problems and it finally dawned on me that I was homeless too. This is how I eventually landed myself in the shelter, which is where I have been for the past year and a half.

Q. Do you have any past experiences that you think may have contributed to your current situation?

Reflecting on the past, a significant factor that led to many of my issues was the time I spent with a roommate. His influence meant a life of partying and I gradually found myself drawn into the lifestyle. The culture and the environment led me into what I felt was a small drug addiction. Once we reached the end of our lease, I was left scrambling in search of housing. I had already lost so much to my past problems and it finally dawned on me that I was homeless too. This is how I eventually landed myself in the shelter, which is where I have been for the past year and a half.

Q. What impact do you think a cellphone could have on your life?

At this moment, my world revolves around cooking. I was just employed as a cook, and want to finish school and eventually get a red seal chef certification. A cellphone would help me maintain communications with my boss, as well as my sister, who is helping me stabilize. In the possibility that I ever find myself homeless and back on the streets, I need the cellphone to connect me with services and to other shelters. I want to use my phone for additional social services like accessing counselling and alcohol anonymous all of which will hopefully help me get back on track.
